I did some research awhile back. DE is a good source of silica. It's 85-90% biogenic silica, (silicic acid, not salycilic), 30-40% of which is water soluble and plaint available. The rest of the silica is bonded to the calcium and trace minerals and must be decomposed before becoming plant available.
